Just days before Christmas, six hardworking families received a simple holiday wish – the warmth of home.
Morris Habitat dedicated the first six of 12 homes at 119-121 Main St. in Succasunna in mid-December. The new homeowners work in our local hospitals, schools and businesses and include a U.S. veteran and his family.
“We’re very excited about this project because it is the largest we’ve undertaken in our 34-year history,” Morris Habitat CEO Blair Schleicher Bravo said at the dedication. “Now six hardworking families will have affordable, safe and decent places to live—just in time for the holidays.
“We built these six homes in record time. We did six houses in 12 months,” Blair continued. “It used to take us two years. Now, we can get people into homeownership faster.”
Morris Habitat has partnered with Roxbury Township, local corporations and civic organizations to construct two buildings, each with six condominiums, at the former site of the township’s department of public works. The second six-plex is scheduled for completion in 2020.
Several of the new homeowners spoke at the dedication, including Farina Salim-Jones, who told the crowd: “You guys made a dream come true. Thank you so much for helping us.”
